THE ARTEFACT
FOUNDATIONS OF DESIGN: REPRESENTATION -

SEMESTER 1, 2021
The Artefact, based on a section of classical painting, merges the traditional with the modern using 3D programs and an assortment of vector and pixel-based design applications, including readying the artefact to be printed and laser cut.
The paper model interacts with the given pattern in a concept that teeters on the edge of modern and classical, two and three dimensional, sharp, and flowing. The surface panels are created in such a way that the visual valleys and crests of shadows follow the flow of painting sample, while the views of model appear with a vivid geometric development.
By employing the unique and custom-built planar surfaces, the three-dimensional design interacts with the sample to emphasize this rise and fall, overlapping to create depths of shadows otherwise unreachable by basic geometries. The topography of the surface is shifted only slightly to highlight this flow of both painted material and intense pointed form.
